Q: How reliable is a 2002 hyundai accent GL?
I am looking at purchasing a used white 2002 hyundai accent GL, a 4 door sedan. I'm not sure whether its manual or automatic. It is only $2995 and it has 40,531 miles on it. How reliable and safe is this car? I'm 16 and it would be my first car but my parents won't let me get a car that I will have to fix up often and is not safe. My mom is insisting that hyundais are not good cars but she does not know much about them. Any personal experience advice or any information would be helpful.
Thanks!
A: Last year I would've said the same thing about Hyundai, but I've become educated since then (as have alot of people close to me) and learned they are among the best cars you can buy.
On your 1st point, this car has low miles and a quick look at the maintainence log will show if its been kept upto date. The reliability of Hyundai's started to improve in the late 90's, and the 2002's are pretty good.
For safety, this is a rather small car and safety features in cars have improved over the last 5 years with multiple airbags, traction control and stability control.
You certainly can't beat that price (seems to be about $2K less then those on autotrader.com) on a young car...I'm sure you're parents are telling you to get an Accord/Camery...well if they are willing to put up the extra $3000 to get one of those cars with about 100,000 miles then that wouldn't be bad, but for $3K you'll only find dogged out Jap cars just waiting for a major repair.
The only other recommendation with ALL used cars is have an independent mechanic look the car over prior to purchase.
Q: where can i get a body kit for my 2002 hyundai accent gl?
I'm lookin for a full body kit for my 2002 hyundai accent gl. i'm lookin for many different ones so i can choose.
A: If its in Australia, there is a company called Talon.
They are located in Sydney at Sutherland.
If you contact a Hyundai dealer they may be able to source one for you.
Good Luck...
Q: What do you think about a 2002 Hyundai Accent?
so i made the mistake with my first car by buying a ford escort, i dont want to make the same mistake twice! i would like to know how reliable these cars are... are they poorly made?..im looking at an automatic 2002 Hyundai Accent with 78,000 miles on it. they are askin about 4,800...
if you could give me some sites with reviews on these cars that would be great! thanx.
it is the GL sedan......
A: I have an 02 Accent manual hatch for a commuter and it's a reliable simple car. It sounds like the GL will have the DOHC 1.6l engine, so that's a plus, but the automatic will slow it down. $4,800 is full retail price, offer something like $3,000 cash for that many miles. It's well made and looks good for it's price class. The structure is solid and has a decent ride quality with independent rear suspension (quite rare in inexpensive small cars). Just plan on spending money for window tinting and sound system upgrades to make it comfortable. For a basic car, the Accent is a good choice.
Q: 2002 Hyundai Accent Wobbling at Slow Speeds?
I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent. I had the tires balanced and rotated yesterday because the car was shaking a lot and seemed very wobbly at certain speeds. I figured this would take care of the problem. It took car of most of the problems but now at slow speeds the car kind of wobbles side to side a bit (mostly when slowing down). Any idea what else it could be. I hope it's nothing serious because I don't have the money to take care of this right now.
It was aligned two months ago and nothing would have caused it to be bad already.
And I rotated the tires yesterday when I balanced them.
The place I went to was Wal-Mart so that may explain why no attention to detail was paid. haha Anyway, I have a lifetime balance and rotation so it's free for me there. I thought for sure this time that a balance was all the tires needed.
A: Because you said it took care of most of the problem, I have to say you have a bad tire and the shop didn't notice the wobbly tire while balbancing it. You will probably need a new tire when you go back to them. It could be a warped rim. When you get the money for a tire, they will check it out more closely and find the problem specifically. If you go back and they check it and can't find the problem, go somewhere else and don't use that shop anymore.
Q: How do I remove the car stereo from a 2002 Hyundai Accent.?
From what I've researched, it appears to be simpler then the 2001 and before models of the Accent, but I haven't been able to find specifics. Wiring the new stereo is a piece of cake. Just getting to it is proving to be a slight challenge.
A: see website www://crutchfield.com & see the best in car stereos & info regarding various vehicles.
Q: What can i do to make my 2002 hyundai accent gain more horsepower for under 500?
Im saving for the 2010 camaro but cant stand this p.o.s. anymore. i gotta have 200 h.p in this car. i have a dual intake i built myself, but i need some more suggestion from you pros.
A: You are better off saving your money for the Camaro. That car was not designed with performance in mind, so to try and get performance out of something that wasn't designed for it will be difficult and could cause damage to the internal components since they are not designed to handle much power.
Q: How much does it cost to replace rear brake shoes of 2002 Hyundai Accent GS?
The parts cost $69.80. The labour was 2hrs and $190. Environmental fee (whatever this is) was $19. They also replaced front pads and turned front rotors. Does this sound reasonable?
A: yeah.. $80 an hour for labor is pretty standard. Kinda dumb that they replaced your front pads too, as I'm sure you didn't need them. But thats a shop for you. If you learn how to do it yourself you will save tons of money though...
Q: How do you take the radio out of a 2002 Hyundai Accent GL? can anyone tell me directions?
i need to figure out how to take the dashboard or rather the centerpiece that holds the radio in out... i want to install an after market radio i just cant figure out how to take the old one out. can anyone help me out here?
A: Car thieves use an axe or a chainsaw.
Q: I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent- how do you change the headlight?
It's the left headlight so the battery is right there, and I'm hoping I don't have to remove that. I've looked at the manual and I can't figure out the first thing to do. The black plastic thing that the wires go into doesn't just pull out and there's no obvious latch.
A: Well there's either screws holding it in from the front or back (look for them since they should be fairly obvious). The plug in the back of the headlight should twist or have a clip that needs to be pushed in before it'll twist or pull out
Q: My 2002 Hyundai Accent labors has major problems shifting gears?
When the car is in park and idling sometimes the engine will rev itself; the reving does not stop so I usually shut the engine off due to being thoroughly freaked out as to whether my car is going to explode. Also, when driving the car won't shift into different gears for the appropriate speeds. When at a stop, I need to really press down on the brake to keep the car from surging forward. Sometimes the check engine light will go on and sometimes not. I have already had the transmission serviced(oil and filter) but it has not helped. HELP!!!
A: get the codes read- it sounds like its almost definitely an electrical problem, probably the throttle position sensor.
Q: Where can I buy rally shock dampers/absorber for a 2002 Hyundai Accent coupe?
I'm preparing a Hyundai Accent for rally racing. I need to buy adjustable shocks and progressive springs for this application.
Thanks!
A: Bull shit. Motons are road racing stuff.
DMS has a Hyundai Accent application. Rally is my business and I say DMS. The secret is in progressive valving which isn't in Motons. Motons are a degressive system. Give these guys a shout. They're experts when it comes to rally gear. www.cp-racing.com The phone is 303-296-3030
Not to bash on the moton guy, but thats not the way to go and you'll hate yourself if you do.

Q: Do you own a post 2002 Hyundai Accent, Elantra, or Sonata? Would you buy the car again?
I am looking to buy a used car and have done my homework. I am now looking to buy a 2006 Elantra or Sonata 4 cyl. 16 valve 2.0 or 2.4 ltr. If you have one what do you like about it? Dislike? Is the gas milage really as good as they say? What about your repair bills? How extensive is the warranty.
One other question, do you have a sun or moonroof? Was it put in at the factory or later. Did it work out?
Thanks for your input.
A: our first hyundai was a 1988 excel. it had over 200,000 miles on it when it was totaled by a red-light runner. my daughter owned a 2002 hyundai elantra. it was totaled when she was driving to fast, failed to negotiate a sharp turn and hit a tree head-on. no injuries either time. my daughter now has a 2004 accent with 70,000+ miles-she abuses it by not getting regular oil changes, etc.-still runs excellant. we have an 05 elantra gt with a factory sunroof-no problems. great cars- as would highly recommend them. great gas mileage and is a comfortable riding car. we owned a 05 honda civic-alot of problems-sold it-yes honda's do have problems. hondas are over-rated.
Q: I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent as i was driving my brakes and steering wheel locked up. Now it wont start????
As i was driving my car made a sound like i had run over something and then the brakes and steering wheel all locked up and all my warning lights came on (check engine light, brake!!, etc.) Now my car wont start. The enginge wont turn over and we cant seem to find out what it might be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated:)
A: If you actually ran something over, it may have caused enough force to trip some sort of safety feature, or something damaged your steering system (possibly the steering column), and won't start due to some sort of failsafe mechanism. It should be checked out by a dealership.
Q: How much can I sell my 2002 Hyundai Accent for ?
78,000 miles good condition, recent brake and oil change. http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/autoreview/400x266/2002-Hyundai-Accent-01803011990001.jpg
A: The people above me are pretty funny. If your car was still worth $5K that would be amazing since it was only about $10-11K new 6 years ago. Anyway, http://www.kbb.com values the car at $3780 for private sale price assuming you have manual transmission.
Q: what is the explanation for a malfunction indicator light that comes on for a 2002 Hyundai accent?
the malunction indicator light on my car lit up yesturday. Before taking it to the dealer, i would like to know what it means and what i;m up against???
A: MIL light comes on, and it lets you know when the computer in the car detects a problem with the engine. If the "MIL light is on, on '97 & (I think) and newer cars, they won't pass inspection. The technician has to plug into the cars computer, and it will tell him what the problem is. In short, "Ya gotta bring it in for service, or it won't pass NY state inspection".
