Q: Do you know why my 2003 Hyundai Accent is jerking?
I have a 2003 Hyundai Accent and it has 40,000 miles on it. This summer I noticed it started "jerking". It usually happens when I would get into my car after work, start it up and put it into reverse or drive. It would jerk forward quickly and then do it again a few more times while I'm driving until it goes away. It would then become sluggish in accelerating after stopping at a light. Now it even jerks on the highway, but instead of going away, right away it will shift into this weird mode that sounds like a deep noise at about 60+ mph. It sounds fine at 55. I noticed it happens after my car has been sitting in heat for a long period of time and doesn't go away until I turn my car off and then on again. My check engine light does not go on. I also brought it into the dealership to check it out, but since it doesn't "act up" for them (since it's spontaneous) they can't fix it. I have been driving with this problem for about 5-6 months. Q: What problem could a transmission noise on a 2003 Hyundai accent be?
The noise happens only during deceleration. Its a noise that sounds like I'm running over small bumps. Oh also its my girlfriends car and she is about 42k miles overdue for new fluid.. its black.

A: Hyundai has a technical service bulletin out to its dealerships for your vehicle for: *Automatic Transaxle 2-3 Shift Flare or Shift Shudder and *Automatic Transaxle Harsh and/or Delayed Shifts In both cases, it is a fluid check and reset of the computer's (TCM) adaptive learning. In some instances, there is a modified TCM that needs to be reprogrammed. The 'kickdown servo' may need to be adjusted or the 'pulse generator' may need to be replaced. A dealer can hook up to your car and read the trouble codes in its computer. Worst case scenario, the transaxle needs to be replaced. If she is the original owner, she should have the 10yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Any manufacturer's defect related to the transmission is covered. The least expensive way to find out if a simple service would do it is to FLUSH the transmission. Make sure they don't just drain and fill because it does not get out all of the contaminated fluid. When you completely flush the system, you can use an aftermarket synthetic fluid instead of Hyundai, called Cam 2. We also add a friction modifier to the new fluid and use a special chemical when flushing. For a comparison, our Hyundai dealership charges $120.00 for the whole flush service (parts and labor). If you do a simple drain and fill, measure how much is drained to know how much to put back in. But again, if the fluid is black, I highly recommend a complete flush because all you'll be doing is contaminating the new fluid you put in with the fluid still trapped in the transaxle (which is a waste of money). The 2003 A/T Accent takes 6.5 quarts of fluid when empty. Always check when vehicle is on, in neutral and at normal operating temperatures. Hyundai recommends a flush every 30,000 miles.

My factories are almost blown, and I'm gonna need some replacements pretty quick otherwise I'm gonna end up with nothing, but I don't want to take everything apart before I have the speakers. Hopefully someone can help. Can YOU?

Q: 2003 Hyundai Accent o2 sensor code failed, replaced, but not fixed. Car Trouble. What is wrong with my car?
I have 2003 Hyundai Accent 1.6L engine. At about 48,000 miles I got a check engine light on so I had it scanned and it turned out that my o2 sensor behind the catalytic converter had gone bad. I changed that o2 sensor and the problem was solved. Now I am at about 59,000 miles and I got another check engine light that has come up. I had my obd2 scanned and the code came up reading "slow response from the o2 sensor before the catalytic converter", so I had that one replaced. After about 150 miles on that sensor the check engine light came back on with the same code. I returned the part (which was strangely covered with a great amount of carbon for only being in my car 9 days), and got a completely new one. I installed it and also replaced my plugs too. After about 150 miles the check engine light is back with the same code as before, "slow response from the o2 sensor before the catalytic converter". Does anyone know what could be wrong with my car? I can't figure it out.

A: your catalytic converter is plugged by the sounds of it, and you keep fouling the 02 sensors. Check the converter, take it to a muffler shop. A lot of city driving, stop/go, and idling is the cause for this.

Q: A stock 2003 Hyundai Accent Gt *DOHC* engine. Need ideas to make the car a fast enough to smoke honda?

A: A decent 1/4 mile time for street racing against your average compacts is probably around 14.8 Your Accent could use a turbo. Goodluck as there will always be someone faster! And a couple words of advice....don't get too cocky with your Hyundai

Q: how much does it cost to insure a 2003 hyundai accent 4 door?

A: http://www.progressive.com is the only way to know, we can't guess for you. Rates depend on state you live in, age, marital status, garage or street parked, miles driven a year, type of coverage and deductibles, driving record, etc etc. Rates will vary by company so check several insurance vendors. I have Erie Insurance on my house and 2 cars, pay about $1650 a year for full coverage on both an 00 Nissan Quest and 06 Hyundai Azera.

Q: Does my 2003 Hyundai Accent need a transmission teardown?
So my 2003 Hyundai Accent had a check engine light and the code came up as cylinder misfire via jiffy-lube. Has new spark plugs so I replaced the wires and light went off, for a day. When light came on again I took it to a repair shop and it was diagnosed as code p0713, replace oil temperature sensor, an I was recommend to a transmission specialist. When I took it to Aamco to have the sensor changed and my now due transmission service they found metal shavings and wanted to take apart the transmission to see what component was coming apart. Then I took it back to the dealer since it is still under warranty and they said everything was fine, light was only from misfire. Car has 91,000+, idles rough and hesitated when switching low gears especially when first started and the transmission last serviced at 60,000. Who should I believe? Why would I go to the dealer and pay more for oil changes and basic maintance? The sensor would not have been covered under my warrenty, I checked.

A: I would get that motor running good first if it's not running right it will not be shifting right if it is under warranty why are you going to ammco for a sensor and why are you going to jiffy lube for anything. You need to find a shop you trust and just go there. I would belive that there is no concern with the trans just with the engine

Q: 2003 Hyundai Accent Timing Belt?
Should water pump also be replaced with timing belt?? I have 63000 miles on car. I was told be a few mechanics that water pump should be replaced when replacing timing belt. Thanks.

A: I would definatly replace the water pump. When you change the timing belt in that car, the water pump is right there. You might as well change it. What happens if you don't, and the water pump starts leaking a week after the timing belt is done? Would you enjoy paying the same labor twice? My advice. Change it. For sure.

Q: I have a 2003 Hyundai accent and I am trying to find some racing parts engine and body.?

A: Check your local auto parts retailer and then go from there. Depending on where you live check out the big stores too. Make sure you keep it maintained so it doesn't let you down.
