Q: Where can I find a wiring diagram for the coil pack of a 1996 Hyundai Elantra?
My 1996 Hyundai Elantra won't start. Looking around the Coil Packs, I see a dangling wire. Its a green wire that plugs into something. My question is...where does that wire go? Can somebody help me to locate a wiring diagram for that area of the engine compartment? Any help would be much appreciated.

A: Is your wire dangling off the coil pack or the main harness near the coil packs? My guess is it's one of the wires that connects the clip for the coil to the main harness. There should be a small clip on each coil. If the wire is still connected to the main harness, you need to find the clip with not enough wires and probably have to replace the pigtail. If you have it connected to the coil but not the main harness, follow the other wires from the same clip back to the harness and pull back the insulation to find the broken wire, then reconnect them with a butt connector or shrink tube and cover with the insulation.

Q: Where can I find a wiring diagram for the radio of a 1996 Hyundai Elantra?
I have a '96 Hyundai Elantra and I'm trying to put a new stereo in it... Only problem is is that the manual I have is soaked and I need a wiring diagram to be able to wire this up the right way... Any help is greatly appreciated...

A: Usually your local auto repair shop will have the diagram on disk that they can print off for you.I've done this several times and they normally don't charge me anything for it.

Q: What kind of oil filter should I use for a 1996 Hyundai Elantra? And how many quarts does it take?
I'm having my oil pan changed and I need to know what kind of filter to buy and how many quarts... I know it takes 10w-30 oil... It's a little four cylindar too... Is there a specific kind I need or will any kind for a car do? My oil pan has a leak... And it's got alot of rust on it so it's getting changed...

A: Fram is good 4 quarts is enough but why oil pan change?ANY high mileage oil 10w-30

Q: What type of fuel filter would I need for a 1996 Hyundai Elantra? And where is it located on the car?
I'm wanting to change it but I dunno where it's located or what kind I need...

A: It is a canister type filter. The filter is located on the firewall on the driver's side, by the strut tower. Take care on removing the lines because they are very tight and will tend to strip. The best way to do this is with Craftsman line wrenches on the canister side and also on the line side. Do the bottom first, and then the top.

Q: how do you line up a flywheel to th trnsmission for a 1996 hyundai elantra?

A: there are no "timing marks" for a flywheel just bolt it on thay say if you take one off you should mark it and put it back the way it came off but thats not important I replace fly wheels all the time there not marked to be on a certain way

Q: Is it sad that a 1996 Hyundai Elantra is slower than a 1996 Chevy 1500 z71 truck?
Is it just me or is that sad? Or does the fact that the Hyundai is a 4 cylindar and the Chevy a V8 really come into play with that?

A: um, how often does a 4 cylinder vehicle beat a 8 cylinder vehicle in a race...almost never. Did you really expect the truck to be slower then the car just because its a truck? The Elantra isn't supposed to be fast or quick, the Z71 was marketed as such. On the other hand a 2 cylinder motorcycle would blow both of these vehicles away in any race.

Q: 1996 Hyundai Elantra Sedan not heating correctly?
The blower doesn't blow warm air... Defroster doesn't defrost the winsheild like it should... In otherwords... I AM COLD IN THAT CAR! What could cause this?

A: This will sound strange, but also check your radiator fluid level, for some reason after having our Nissan Quest radiator flushed they didn't fill it to the proper level and the heater took over 10-minutes to kick in, I topped off the fluid and it starting working properly. This may not be your problem, but only takes a minute to check the overflow tank.

Q: I have a hyundai elantra 1996 and the engine is over heated whats the problem also my radiator smells gas?

A: Blown head gasket

Q: i have a 1996 hyundai elantra the hose that goes to the coolant resevior popped off, now the car shuts off .?
the car starts fine when it is cold but shuts off when it gets hot. Any suggestions? it is a four cylinder. The hose was refitted, and the temp shows normal, there is no smoke coming from the exhaust , it just shuts down for what would seem no reason at all. Tires plus could not diagnose the problem they said they could not get the computer to respond. All the electricals seem to work fine including all lights, wipers, radio and so on so I am not sure why they could not diagnose the problem. thanks

A: need more info did you refit the hose? if so did you refill with coolant? failing that the engine is shutting down due it getting too hot or the engine is cooked.,.........see a mechanic.

Q: Oxygen sensor-1996 huyundai elantra. Help!?
I have a 1996 hyundai elantra and it is running really poorly. I had a friend check it out and he says that it's the oxygen sensor. Where is that located and do you think it is something I can fix myself. P.S. I am certainly no mechanic so do you think I should just take it to the shop? Thanks for any help.

A: O2 sensors are fairly easy to replace. They are stuck on the exhaust pipes (just outside of the engine). But you need special O2 sensor socket (often loaned out by AutoZone for free). O2 sensor looks almost like a spark plug. If you can replace a tire, you can replace the O2 sensor. Look up your car on AutoZone.com. Almost all O2 sensors are replace the same way. So even if you don't find your exact car and model, if you find something similar you can figure out what to do. Just make sure that your O2 sensor is really dead. They are expensive and difficult to tell if they are bad. So I don't know how your friend determined that O2 sensor is bad. In general you need a scope or O2 specific volt meter (regular volt meter respond too slowly). And you need experience reading the volt meter. One way to do it cheap is to replace O2 sensor from one car to the next (just to test). Just be careful because you have a good chance of breaking the ceramic shell if not done correctly. === You have an 1996 (ODBII) car. Get a ODBII scanner at AutoZone or Sears. They can be had online or at those stores as little as $50 (on sale). They are worth the investment and works on more than one car. Also you can resell it later and recoup some of the cost.

Q: Changing Radios in a Hyundai Elantra?
I just got a 1996 Hyundai Elantra off of my grandparents and the radio in it will not work because it needs a code (the radio got reset when my grandpa changed the battery and they never had the code for it) But I am now trying to put an Eclipse CD player in it... What kind of wiring adapters would I need to put this CD player in? And where can I get them? And if you would like to know what kind of CD Player it is I can give you the Model or the Product Number if you want... Also... The radio in there is a tape player... Not a CD They also do not have the same connectors...

A: Do you have the wiring harness that plugs into the back of the radio you want to install? If not, you would need to order that from the manufacture. Then you would need a wiring harness that would match your factory one, unless you wanted to splice into the factory wiring. I personally don't recommend. I find it difficult to work in the car like that. Check out crutchfield.com and put your car's info in. They'll show you what you need and included instructions to make it easier. FYI: If you take the car to a Hyundai dealer with proof of ownership they could probably get that radio working.

Q: mitsubishi lancer springs would fit on hyundai elantra 2g ?
can the springs from a mitsubishi lancer CB 1993-1996 body fit on a 2g hyundai elantra 1999

A: no. different shape and head.

Q: how can i get my car trunk to open?
i have a 1996 hyundai elantra wagon. it has a latch to open the trunk as well as the key. and they both will not open it. Trunk door is shut tight. It is not about the weather either.

A: Well the latch could be stuk or the rod that actuates it could be unattached or broken. You would have to get in the car to the rear hatch and try to remove the rear hatch panel see if you can get it off if not well a pry bar is your best option but do it from iside to not damage the outside of the car. I do not remeber but if you can pop the rear window up or move it down you may be able to accsess the latch from up top with a coat hanger as well sliding it threw the gap where the window is like poping a locked door take your time as well.

Q: 1996 Hyundai P0141?
Okay this is my situtation. My sister got 1996 Hyndai 1.8l Elantra. Now, to begin with the engine has been swapped. The new engine only has 66k miles. We First replaced the Downstream o2 sensor. Same problem. New sparkplugs, sprkplg wires, wiring seems to be working fine, also the muffler system including the Cat looks pretty healthy, but same code. The car runs good. and sounds good. still same thing anyone tell me what to look for next? she needs to get the car inspected.

A: Check the wiring at the rear O2 sensor. When you have a fail code with circuit in the description, it usually means a wiring problem or a short in the sensor. The diagnostic flow chart says either wiring problem at O2 sensor or ECM connector or somewhere in between.

Q: About how much would it cost to get my car repainted?

A: A coat of paint the same colour would be around $1000, different colour $2500, Hampster $5000.
