A: Check the fuses first.

Q: does a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles?
I have a Hyundai Elantra 2000 with 59K miles on it. It is running fine but the owners manual says that I should change the timing belt. Hyundai wants $650 for the timing belt so I went to a local Goodyear. They say that It will cost like $500 but when you throw in the suggested change of the water pump and new hoses and a coolent system flush it comes to over $1000 bucks. I trust this goodyear dealer they have done work for me before but my question is is it really worth it for a car worth about $3K? How long can I realistcly expect the timing belt, hoses and water pump to last?

A: it is recomended but long as you don't drive it hard you may get up to 90 thousand miles with it be easy with it good luck

Q: Why wont my 2000 Hyundai Elantra start? Its getting gas, has spark, turns over but will not fire?
My Elantra has a new fuel pump, new spark plugs, great battery. I turn the key and it cranks but it doesn't even start to even sound as though its going to fire. Just cranks and cranks and cranks. Someone told me it could be a crankshaft position sensor.... Any other ideas? And if you think it is the senor, how much is a sensor like that and how hard is it to do? Thanks!

A: It could be the Crank Sensor, but could also be a timing belt issue. You would have to have someone check it to be sure. Sensor lists for $94, if that is the problem. If has been a while since you have had the timing belt replaced (they are due every 60K) check that too. A timing belt that is loosing the teeth on it, can cause the timing to advance to the point that it wont start.

Q: How to replace fuel filter for 2000 Hyundai Elantra?
I have been getting increasingly worse gas mileage. I am not about to the $200 that my dealership will charge and plan to do it myself. How much would it cost to purchase the part and what are the steps in doing it?

A: A plugged gas filter will not cause you to get worse gas millage. Now $200 to change the filter... is the filter in the gas tank? If so that would explain the high cost and not something you want to try yourself. If not it shouldn't be hard to change for a lot less money.

Q: How to reporgram key-less entry on 2000 Hyundai Elantra?
I trest drove the car, and it worked, now it doesn't. I did replace batteries, how can I now reprogram it so it works? Can I avoid going to dealer?

A: nope,if the remote is bad or needs reprogramming both need to be done at the dealer. Sorry, one hour labor at most, alot of dealers will charge half hour if you buy a new remote. A hyundai tech

Q: Why is my check engine light on in my 2000 Hyundai Elantra?
My check engine light has come on and I have no idea why. I am scared to drive the car for cause of more damage. I already replaced the transmission in the car and I am scared that I am having more problems with it. Why does that light even come on?

A: take it and have the computer scanned, there's no way to guess at that ,only a scanner will tell why the light is on,then it will give you a trouble code to work with,so it can be repaired, good luck with it.

Q: I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra and all of a sudden the car stopped moving in drive. Reverse works normal.Ideas?
I tried changing transmission fluid and filter, nothing changed. It will shift for about one minute after sitting for hours. I'm really hoping I don't need a new transmission. Sensor problem maybe?

A: Yup, you almost certainly need a new transmission and considering the age of the car that is probably a death blow. It will cost a minimum of $1800 and upto $2600 to have a new transmission installed. You could go for a used transmission and maybe with labor that would only cost you $1200, but used transmissions are very risky.

Q: Considering buying a 2000 Hyundai Elantra, any reviews good or bad about this car?
I dont really know anything about them....The car has 115,000 miles on it....How many miles can these cars normally go for? Also if something should need to be fixed in the near future will the parts be really expensive because its an import? Any input would be appreciated

A: I have a 2001 Elantra w/ 130,000 on it and still going strong. 2000 is just before they introduced the new generation of Elantras. Not a bad car but 2001+ are better because of the improvements mechanically to the engine and trans.

Q: How do I install a fuel pump to a 2000 Hyundai elantra wagon?

A: my answer is try to check it out first on auto repair shop...,

Q: Does anyone know where I can find a shorter gear shift for an automatic 2000 Hyundai Elantra?
Needs to be about 3 - 4" shorter than the original. It has a button on the knob and an overdrive switch as well.

A: you could use an aftermarket one but then you would have to relocate your overdrive switch somewhere shouldnt be too hard

Q: Ethanol Gasoline 2000 Hyundai Elantra?
whould it be bad to put in 2000 Hyundai Elantra. Since I don't have the corn leaf label? Or does it matter I don't want to ruin the fuel system or motor.

A: Basically any car sold in the US can use up to 20% ethanol without any problems. Ethanol is not as corrosive to fuel system as methanol. Many gasoline companies regularly use up to 15% ethanol during parts of the year. If 10% max is specified by manufacturer, this is ridiculously conservative. If you want to run more than 20%, up to a maximum of 25%, you can use Klotz Uplon Upper Fuel Lube, one ounce per 20 gallons to provide sufficient fuel system lubrication.

Q: My 2000 Hyundai Elantra is leaking a clear greasy liquid that is not gas or water?
what is it and how much will it cost a either Midas repair or a regular car shop? It has a slight smell to it and it is very greasy and it is in the front left It was the front left and I did not have the ac on

A: could be brake fluid or power steering have it checked out asap.

Q: where can i find an online reference guide to replacing a timing belt in a 2000 hyundai elantra?

Q: Where can I find wiring diagrams for a 2000 Hyundai Elantra?

Q: 2000 Hyundai Elantra Rocking and Shaking in Gear, Bad Spark Plugs?
Just the other day I was backing up and the car started sputtering like it was going to die. Then almost immediatly the check engine light came on. I changed the air filter with no luck, found no loose or missing hoses or wires. Is it possible the spark plugs are bad?

A: it's possible but bad spark plugs won't set off your check engine light. This is a sign it is something more. It could be a bad oxygen sensor, a problem with the injectors or the comp that controls it. Most places will do a complete diagnostic for a mininmal fee and then drop the fee if you have the repairs done there. Get it checked before it costs you more.
