Q: How do I check if my car (Hyundai Elantra 2005) is running low on the coolant?
I see that the level seems a little low. I am not sure if I can just top it off with more coolant. Any Ideas?
A: Coolant Level Check Overview:
Inspect coolant hoses and radiator for leaks.
The antifreeze or cooling fluid reservoir (expansion tank) is usually a translucent white color. You should be able to see the fluid inside and the cap should be labeled accordingly.
Remove the expansion tank cap and look into the tank.
Check the coolant level in the expansion tank. The expansion tank has two level marks on the side of it: "Full" and "Low". The coolant level should be somewhere between the "Low" and "Full" marks.
If the fluid below the “Low” mark, add as needed. See process for adding coolant below.
Take note of the coolant's color. It should be clean and, depending on the brand, transparent, green, red, blue or yellow in color.
If it's brown or rust-colored, the car may need a radiator flush. There should not be anything else in the coolant; if you see oil in the radiator or expansion tank, it may be evidence of an internal engine defect such as a blown head gasket.
Adding Coolant
Wait 15-20 minutes until the engine has cooled down if your car has been recently operated. When the engine is cool, simply add coolant into the reservoir until the fluid is at the top “Full” mark.
If there is no coolant in the expansion tank, add coolant directly into the radiator. Note: Consult your owner's manual for correct coolant type and concentration.
The mixture of coolant to water inside your vehicle's radiator is 50:50. Again, consult your owner’s manual for manufacturer’s recommendation.
If the level frequently falls below "LOW" after adding fluid, you probably have a leak and should have it checked as soon as possible.
Q: What would be a fair price for the replacement of a timing belt on a 2005 Hyundai Elantra?
A: My husband owns a business where, et al, he repairs vehicles. I am his business manager; I keep the books. The cost is subjective to many things including where you live. What your talking about is labor cost, parts should be similar. Call around and ask different shops their hourly labor charges and for quotes on the number of hours they estimate to do the job. You'll be able to figure out what a fair price is for your area by asking these two questions. Recap: hourly rate and time estimate for repair.

Q: Hyundai Elantra 2005 engine keeps working with no keys?
Hi,
My car did some noise when I drove back home.
When I parked it and took out the key the engine kept working with a very loud noise and the car was shaking hard. When I put back the keys and ignited, the car started working properly.
I took out again the keys- the problem return. I let the car shaking for 2-3 minutes and smoke started to get out from the engine. I put back the keys, ignited, and turned off - and finally the car stopped working.
Any idea what is the problem? The car is still under warranty.
Thanks in advance.
A: I've never heard of this problem but this is something the dealer should take a look at. And don't "shout" at the dealer to fix your car. That's one of the worst things you can do right off the bat because once you start disrespecting them they, in turn, won't respect your situation.
These guy's may help too.

I can easily retort sofpan's ramblings but this is a question and answer forum, not a banter with a troll forum.
Q: I have a 2005 hyundai elantra that wont start! please help! i dont know what else to try!?

A: No matter your mileage, Hyundai Roadside Assistance (1-800-243-7766) will tow it to the closest Hyundai dealership for no charge. Unless you are over 60k or bought the vehicle with a salvage title, you have the bulk of the 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty left. If you are the original owner, you have the 10yr/100,000 mile warranty. Chances are the problem is covered by warranty if you are under 60,000 miles.
If you have a manual transmission, there is a switch behind the clutch that goes bad. Basically telling the computer that you don't have the clutch depressed - ergo the car won't start. It can be very intermittant. It is the IGNITION LOCK SWITCH ASSEMBLY, you or your mechanic can purchase from a Hyundai dealer. MSRP is about $8.00. If this is the part and you are under 60k, it is covered by the warranty.

Q: Buying a 2005 Hyundai Elantra 5 door GLS and will be 2nd owner. What warranty will I get?
I know that the original owner gets a 5 year/60,000mile bumper to bumper and 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty but what does the second owner get as far as a transferrable warranty?
A: depending on the mileage of the vehicle you are buying you get the remainder of the original warranty. The only thing that doesn't transfer over is the power train. That goes to a 5year/ 60,000 mile power train. everything else is the same like the 5 year/ 60,000 mile limited basic coverage(bumper to bumper), and a 5 year/ unlimited mile road side assistance. you can also buy the 100,000 power train from Hyundai all just ask your local Hyundai dealer how. its called the Hyundai Protection Plan or HPP.
