Q: How do I remove the power steering pulley from a 2001 hyundai santa fe?
Bolt and nut in center of pulley turn together, but it doesn't come loose. I expected the nut to come off, but the bolt stays attached to it and they turn together.
A: pulley pull tool
Q: where is the throttle position sensor on my 2001, Hyundai Santa Fe?
either i'm blind or i have a wrong picture of the part. where do i find this little gem?
i really need to go and pick up a haynes manual.
thanks,
chris
thanks sontag, i'll have a look after work.
A: I have not worked on a Santa Fe myself, but all throttle position sensors I have seen are on the throttle body, which is where the throttle blade is located. Have someone inside the car work the gas pedal up and down and see which cable is moving on top of the engine. Where the throttle cable connects to the throttle body, the throttle position sensor is just opposite this. It tells the computer how far the throttle blade is open so the correct amount of fuel and ignition timing is needed. There will be a wire harness connected to it.
Q: How can the Air-condition of a Hyundai Santa fe 2001 be reached for cleaning (the evaporator inside the cabin)
The cooling capacity is getting weak over the years and the air flow sound strong but there is not much flow.
I think if I can clean it then flow will get better.
A: They make a foaming cleaner you can get at some auto parts stores. It is sprayed in the drain hole on the evaporator case. It will expand and clean inside the case. Also there may be a cabin air filter that needs changed. If it is plugged up air flow will be reduced.Check with the dealer or auto parts store and see if they have one. One or the other should fix your problem................UJN
Q: how much is it for labor to change a timing belt on a 2001 hyundai santa fe?
A: its going to take them probably 3-5 hrs to fix & you will have to pay them just in labor $100.00 to $200.00 it all depends on how much experecne they have & if there a qualified tech. to fix it.
Q: I bought a used 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe that has engine noise. I think it's loud, but the dealer calls it, "?
"slight lifter noise, common among Hyundais".
Obviously he doesn't want to fix it and the warranty mileage is about to max out.
Is this common among Hyundais or is guy blowing smoke?
A: It is true that you will hear some lifter noise on some cars, especially if they have been sitting for a while. Drive it on a highway for 10 miles without the trans in 3rd gear, be careful not to over-rev the engine. If the lifters are able to pump back up, then this will do it. If they don't, then some may need to be replaced. This usually works. If not, what was the agreement on the purchase? Was a warranty implied?
Q: My car doesn't want to start, and i know its not the battery?Hyundai santa fe 2001?
is there a button or a key in that car the could make it not work
i know its computrized and it doesn't want to start not even the automatic key
A: What is the car doing when you turn the key?
Is it cranking over? Is it making a clicking sound?
If you know it isn't the battery and it makes a click sound, your starter is broken.
If it is cranking but not starting, you might not be getting a spark, or you haven't had an oil change for a hella long time.
Good luck
Q: Is the engine in a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe (V6, 2.7) an interference engine?
Thank you, Chris
A: Yes, it will bend valves if the timing belt breaks. Replace the timing belt if you are not sure of the history of the vehicle, they are good for 60K miles, not much more. The timing belt job is around $400 if it hasn't broken and $1500 if it has.
Q: 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe codes....?
I have been trying to get my car to pass inspection and the check engine light comes on everytime i get it freakin fixed. The code is PO171. I have had things cleaned/replaced a Cat Conv/etc...it runs like hell and the techs told me to bring it to Hyundai to get the computer "reflashed". I really need to get this fixed! Needless to say I have spent almost a grand trying to get this resolved. Please HELP!!!!!
A: This is the type of situation where dealership technicians with all the factory diagnostic equipment and information are the best people to have working on your car. Any shop can do brake jobs and replace tires, but any ol' shop probably is going to have a Chilton's, if anything, as a guide to your vehicle. Dealership technicians have access to Hyundai's factory shop manuals, technical service bulletins and the experience of working primarily on Hyundais like yours.
Also, if you paid a technician to solve a problem, and the problem wasn't solved, you shouldn't have to pay for it. Check with your state's laws on it.
Q: i have a 2001 hyundai santa fe, my check engine came on, i reset it and it came on again,?
i have just given it a tune up, i think i somehow reversed the hoses, does someone have a diagram....
A: And it will continue to come back on unless and until you fix whatever it is that is causing the light to come on. Hook up the scanner, and read the codes. That will give you a starting place.
Q: What would cause the alternator on my 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe to burn out 3x and also 2 new batteries?
I have replaced the alternator on my 01 SantaFe 3x and it has burned out/died 3x...I have also replaced the battery 2x. Each time, the alternator lasts only a few hours...and then has to be replaced again. I have tried this 3x and have not been able to find the cause. Any ideas?
Yes I am doing the work myself since the dealership/mechanic was going to charge me a ridiculous amount of $$. (lol)
Those are all very good suggestions. Although the wiring was installed correctly because there is only one way to install it, I will definitely check all the wiring, harness, ground cables, etc...I will keep you posted. Happy Thanksgiving!
oh yeah, forgot to ask you...any tricks on how to get the serpentine belt out?
A: Well so far doing it yourself has saved you a lot of money...... I would say there is a short someplace or bare wire that you have not/cannot see.
Q: Transmission engaging issue- what's going on with my 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe?
Alright, the yesterday I was backing out of my parking spot and you know how when you put your car or truck in reverse, you feel a little grab and then if you let off the brake the car will idle backwards? Well that didn't happen. I had to give a little bit of gas before the tranny grabbed and the truck, with a little jolt, went backwards. Then in drive, the same thing- had to give it a little gas before the tranny engaged. So i had to run an errand so i parked the truck, borrowed a car. When I got back i tried it again.
Put it into reverse- it grabbed and backed up at idle speed. Cool. Put it into drive, had to give it a little gas before it would grab- and it did and down the road i went (was going to the mechanics). Every red light or stop sign i came to a complete stop and took off with no problems. Stopped at my storage unit on the way, stopped, parked and turned off the truck. Got back in, fired it up, put it into drive and off i went with no problems! Thoughts?
The truck drove the rest of the way to the mechanics with no problems. Wouldn't have even known it was having any problems.
The mechanic said that after a diagnostic test it returned a code that an engagement problem had happened (you think) and quoted me $3209 to replace the tranny (the santa fe is a front wheel drive). Called Aamco where i'm going for a second opinion and they were sceptic of that diagnostic and offered to do one for free. They're worst case is that if it needed to be rebuilt that would cost only about $2,400- still no spare change, but better then $3,200! But do I really need a new tranny? It runs fine with the exception of yesterday's "incident". I'd like to get some other thoughts so I can at the very least be better educated.
THANKS!!!!!!
maya's dad and others- i checked the fluid level and it's topped off.
"Hyundai is JUNK"- well, thanks for the opinion but that doesn't really help seeing that this is the only vehicle i have next to my vespa. but i'm certainly open to donations if you'd like to drop a more superior vehicle off at my front door. it certainly would be greatly appreciated.
the fluid does look a little burnt. i could flush and see what happens. it tried the truck again yesterday (took it to get a second opinion other then "just replace it and that'll be $3,200- thanks"). when i started it- it did the same thing. but once it warmed up, it ran and shifted from park to drive/reverse just fine. so it seems only to happen when it's cold at start up.
i'll check out the TCM and inspect for metal shavings- although i didn't notice any upon inspection for the "burnt fluid".
and to answer the 100,000 miles warranty question: 103,000- damn it!
A: If it hasn't done it since you may be lucky. It could have been a hickup between the TCM and the tranny.
To be safe you may want to get your transmission serviced. If theres anything wrong with it you'll find metal scrappings or burnt fluid.
You can check the fluid yourself, if it smells like almonds its burnt.
Q: How do I change an alternator in a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe? (4 cylinder)?
A: This is for a 2003, but may be the same.
Q: Hyundai Santa Fe warning light ?
I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe but no manual. An amber light has come on in the dash board with a picture of the engine and the word "Check". Any one know what I have to check ? Thanks.
A: That's your check engine light. This could mean a problem with the engine or emissions system.
The most common cause, however, is a loose, missing or damaged gas cap. This causes extra air to get into the fuel tank, messing up the air/fuel ratio and the pressure inside the tank and tricking the car into thinking something is wrong with the sensors or the vehicle.
To see if this is the problem, first check if your gas cap is secured tightly. If it's loose or missing, this is most likely the cause of the problem. Tighten the cap, or if it is damaged or missing, replace it.
If this is the cause, it will take the car a while to realize it's fixed. When the car gets below half a tank or so (or if it's already there), fill it, and wait until it's time for the next fill-up after that before concluding you have a problem. If the light doesn't go off in a few days to a week, get the car checked by a mechanic as soon as possible.
Q: hyundai santa fe?
I am looking for a do it your self repair on a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe v6 I am trying to change out the ac and I need a step by step guild.
yes we are changing out the entire ac system and there is no warranty.
A: What part of the A/C? All of it? Believe me if you are trying to change your entire A/C system and you have to even ask for help, you shouldn't be doing it. Take it to a professional before you cost yourself more time and money than it is worth.
Q: Throw out bearing in 2001 Hyundai Sante Fe?
I have recently developed a problem with my 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe. I was driving down the interstate one night when it literally felt like the engine tried to jump out of the car. My check engine light came on immediately and I pulled off the road and called my husband. It drove fine for him on the way home. The next day, he drove it into town and had it placed on a diagnostic machine for the check engine light. Whatever code it was, indicated that we needed to take it back to the dealership because of a transmission issue. On the way to the dealership, the light went off and the dealership said that without the light being on, they wouldn't be able to tell what the problem is. We drove it around town(no long trips) the following day and it did it again. We stopped at a stop light and it would not go. My husband had to manually shift it into second to get the car to go. It has a semi-automatic transmission. He started it last night and actually got it to go into first gear.
He said it sounded like the throw out bearing was the problem. How likely is this the actual problem? Or am I going to have to have an overhaul on my transmission?
I should also add that this car has 108,000 miles and it has been taken excellent care of. We use full synthetic oil and change it frequently. Also, the transmission fluid has been routinely replaced as well. Also, I do not use the manual part of the transmission very often. I believe that the previous owners, my brother and sister in law, did use it frequently. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
A: the code is stored and can be accesed and it does have a throwout bearing but i cant see that as a problem here
