Q: New 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe trouble accellerating/braking?
I just bought my new 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe 2 weeks ago, and all was well until about 2 days ago. It started acting up when I try to accellerate...it feels as if it is jerking into gear, or more like it is braking on its own. It seem to be straining until I get past 30 MPH, and then it seem to be ok. But then again, soon as I take my foot off the pedal, it is almost like I am applying the brake as the car slows down quickly - instead of coasting to a stop. Almost like a "grabbing" sensation....
Does anyone know what this could be? Its driving me crazy - as the car drove like a dream before this started. I am taking it in on Monday to have it looked at, but I am afraid they won't understand what I am talking about. This vehicle only had 6 miles on it when I got it...do you think it needs to be tweaked? Could something be majorly wrong? Help!!!?
A: Hard to say if there's something major wrong, but no question that is not normal at all and you noticed the sudden change. It sounds like an issue with the Transmission or ECU more than anything else. I hope you will post a followup later today if they diagnose the problem, would be interesting to see what they found.
Q: Is it normal for a new 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe to blow blue/black smoke in the morning?
I leased a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe in June and noticed about a month ago when it started to get cold outside in the morning, it puffed blueish black smoke and now even when the car is warm it smokes. The transmission also stays in first until 30mph and then kicks in hard to second gear. Is that related? The dealer said the smoke is normal since it is a new car and only has 4800 miles and needs to be "broken in" but I don't believe it. The dealer also said I must be driving the car to hard if the transmission kicks. I feel because I am a woman they are taking advantage of me. My brother advised me to stay away from Hyundai. Should I bring the car to another dealer? Is that normal?
A: You have a book that came with your car stating who to call if the car is not repaired. Look up the numbers and start calling. I have two Hyundai cars and let me tell you the same as the others here, that is not normal with the engine or transmission.
The next time you get a new car, find a better dealer who will fix your car.
Q: Did we get a good deal on our new 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited?
My wife and I just bought a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 2WD. The cash price was 38662, we made a 400 dollar downpayment and recieved a 3500 rebate, had a 700 dollar trade in which they added 1000 dollar cash incentive too. This leaves 23062 to pay over 72 months at 7.99% interest at 408.12 a month. Did we get a good deal?
I'm sorry the cash price was 28662, NOT 38662
A: Your numbers don't add up. The loan should be $29,800 with the down payment and incentives you list.
It is an ok price. You did get a Limited. You could have gotten a stripped-down brand new Santa Fe for $22,000..
Q: 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe or 2008 Chevrolet Equinox????????
I'm about to purchase a car and i'm stuck between these two. Both are pretty much the same in price and have the same features. I'm kinda leaning towards the Santa Fe because i like the style. Need your advice/previous experience. Thanks!
A: Santa Fe all the way
the Equinox is based on the old Saturn Vue, the interior is cheaply made, the engine is rough and gets poor mpg. the handling is clumsy and the turning circle is huge., the Pontiac Torrent is it's almost identical twin.
the Hyundai is more refined Esc and side air bags are standard, the ride is good. the 2.7 liter engine is adequate and if you need more power an optional 3.3 liter V6 is available.
Q: which car is better 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe 2WD or 2008 toyota Corolla or 2008 toyota Highlander 2WD?
please replay a serious answer..
THANK YOU!!!!!!
A: you comparing a small SUV & a large SUV to a small car.
they are all reliable good vehicles.
the Toyotas will cost more than the Hyundai and have a higher resale value.
The highlander is one of the best mpg SUVs on the road but it's still only 18 mpg. The Santa Fe is smaller but gets the same 18 mpg avg. The corolla avgs 29 and gets 37 Hwy.
you could almost buy 2 corollas for the price of a fully loaded Highlander.
if you don't need to carry more than 4 people or a lot of stuff
you'll save money on gasoline buying the car.
If you need more room the Hyundai and the Highlander are available with third row seats although they are better suited for kids not adults.
if you have plenty of money the hybrid Highlander is very highly rated.
if your on a budget the Hyundai will cost thousands of dollars less yet still be reliable.
I would also recommend that you drive the Kia Rondo.

The Kia Rondo is a five-door crossover vehicle that debuted at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. Based on the front-wheel-drive platform of the Kia Optima, the Rondo is shaped like a small minivan offering spacious legroom and headroom. Sharing engine, transmission and chassis components with the Optima, the Rondo is offered with a 162-horsepower 2.4-liter engine or a 182-horsepower 2.7-liter V6. The four cylinder comes with a 4-speed automatic while the V6 has a 5-speed automatic. Available in 5- and 7-passenger versions, the Rondo offers optional third-row seating that can fold down in a 50/50 split.
Q: How does Hyundai Bluetooth Work? (Santa Fe 2008)?
Does the bluetooth get integrated into the dashboard? Does it go over the speakers? Or is it one of those ugly after market options that is stuck to the ceiling with a poor speaker and mic?
Thank You!
A: The Bluetooth is a POI (port installed option) All dealerships will be getting these kits in the next few weeks.
They are actually installed in the compartment that holds the sunglasses. Once installed, the sunglass compartment can't be used. The compartment contains the speaker and also the microphone.
It is a fairly good system that allows you to store up to 7 different phones (i believe it's 7).
The sound does NOT come out of the radio. It does sound pretty good coming from the sunglass compartmnet.
Q: Which is the better purchase value? 4-year old Honda vs new Hyundai.?
Hi,
I'm in the market for a car, and I've narrowed it down to two choices & trying to determine which of the following is the best value... (all prices are in Cdn$). In either case I'll be selling my existing car for roughly $5000.
Option 1: Lease a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. 0% for 4 years. Car goes for $29,500 + tax. $5000 from old car towards it. Leaves me with payments of about $310/month for 4 years. I get 24,000km/year (about 15,000 mi/year). 5 year / 100,000km (62,000 mi) warranty. At the end of the 4 years I'd have the option to buy it out for just over $10,000. If I go over the 96,000km / 60,000 miles I pay 10¢/km (16¢/mi).
Option 2: Buy a 2003 Honda Pilot with 100,000km (62,000 mi) on it for $14,000. Again, 0% interest, and $5000 from the old car goes towards the cost, reducing the price to $9,000. Which works out to monthly payments of $188. At the end of the 4 years the car is mine. No warranty obviously.
I very much appreciate your opinion. Thanks!
A: I would go for the used Pilot. I don't know if it's the same in Canada as in the US but try checking out Kelly Blue Book and do a little research. Which one has better resale value? Which one has better crash test ratings? Would you rather own your car after you pay off the loan, or have to extend the lease or buy it when the lease is up or lease something else? Which one did you enjoy driving more? Usually when you purchase a used car from a dealership you can purchase a warranty as well.
Q: I am sending 2 cars (made in Canada) to Brazil...will they work or do I have to modify them in anyway?
2001 Convertible Chrysler Sebring and 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe (suv). I wonder if the gas will be any different or if the fuel will hurt my engine? They take regular gasoline in Canada.
A: There should be no reason to modify the engine unles you will be operating at high altitude (not likely in Brazil).
Q: What color of car shows dirt and dust the least?
I'm buying a Hyundai Santa Fe 2008 and I like the dark blue but I bet it'll show the dirt a lot. I need some help on this.
Yes there is a dark red in the Santa Fe but my current car is red. I'd like a change. BTW, red fades in my experience. Its not a great color.
A: Silver is the most forgiving color of car that shows the least dirt, dust, dents and scratches. I inspected new and used cars for a dealership and silver was always the hardest to find dents and scratches in.
You are going to get alot of opinions on this question, but rest assured that I am right! Every other color has a bad tribute, either shows dirt or scratches or dents or water spots or dust and I hate white because not only is it hard to keep clean but it reflects light and therefore stays cooler longer, which allows the moisture to stay on it longer and develop rust quicker.
Q: Buying my first car! need help!!!?
hey! I'm 17 and currently looking for my first car. My dad is willing to spend around $20000 for me. I have been on websites of so many brands but unsure of which is better. My first car that comes in mind is the Mazda 3. However, i just realized that they're going to remodel it in the 2010 model. I couldn't wait for a whole year on that. My dad told me the Corolla is good, but i really don't like the design of it. I also saw the Mitsuibishi Lancer, but it is not that good on fuel. The other one that took my interest is the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. I get $6000 off from the original $27650 if i buy the 2008 model. Please feel free to express your thoughts and opinion! Thanks!
i think a used car should also be ok, but i don't know what kind of car is good. I like cars that are a little sporty like the Mazda3.
A: A Honda Civic.
Q: When are the 2008 Hyundai's coming out?
Specifically looking for Santa Fe...
A: new models usually come out in Sept.
Q: 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited 4x4?
I am looking at getting a new Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited 4x4 with the 4 doors for my family. She's looking for a fun smaller SUV that she feels higher and safe driving on snow covered roads and will be able to haul our two kids (3 & 6). We test drove a few wranglers other day: 4 spd auto & 6 speed manual. The wife and I like the manual. However, we are also going to look at the Honda CR-V, Toyota Rav-4, Mitsubishi Outlander XLS & Hyundai Santa Fe are on our list of SUV's.
We realize the Wrangler is in a totally different type of 4x4 category to the ones listed above. However, the Wrangler has the fun factor, only 4door convertible as well lifetime powertrain warranty.
Questions:
1) What kind of fuel economy have owners been seeing with the 3:73 rear end?
2) Has Jeep solved the issue of the leaky hard top roof?
3) If you have kids how do they like the rear seats for long drives?
4) Any other annoying issues arise from owners?
5) Do Wranglers have decent resale?
A: Fuel economy is around 18mpg on the highway. The roof seal has been replaced with a better seal, but I would have the dealer check the roof for leaks. The rear seats are not comfy on long rides. The Wrangler has great resale,I just sold a 2001 for almost $10,000 but it was in mint condition. If you maintain it you will be able to get a very good resale price.
Q: What are your thoughts on the possible fall of the big three U.S. auto makers?
Ford, GM and Chrysler.
And the desire of the Democrats to bail them out. AGAIN!
Did they not learn after giving Lee Iaccoca 1.5 billion in loans in 1979, and it still did no good?
I put this in politics because of this article.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081116/ap_on_go_co/auto_bailout
Just to get things started.
Mine are that they are basically a dinosaur. They're stuck in the early decades of the 20th century with the UAW still being involved. Something I feel that has led to such high costs of outlandish wages and benefits and resulting in low quality products.
If you look at the worst ten auto's for 2008, all are American made, and Chrysler really topped the list with 7 or 8 of them.
I've owned several cars in my life time, a few being Ford and GM products. Just with those experiences alone, I refuse to even consider a GM or Ford car anymore.
Today I own a Hyundai Santa Fe, made in Montgomery Alabama. It has around 125K miles on it still with no problems. Just regular routine maintenance.
My wife owns a Chevy Monte Carlo SS with 60K. She's putting it in the shop almost every two months and spending $500 to a $1000 each time, seriously considering getting rid of it and buying a Honda Odyssey.
Lets just say if they did fail, and closed all production. Would the workers be willing to let companies like Honda or Toyota come in, retool, and give them good paying jobs without the UAW being involved? Because if they weren't willing to not let the UAW back in, Toyota, Honda or even Hyundai probably wouldn't even consider these areas.
Joshua
Chrysler did repay the loans. At .30 to the dollar. Costing the U.S. taxpayers millions.
And Chrysler is not doing great. They're in talks with GM to keep from folding over completely.
stumped:
In no way was I trying to downgrade the quality of the workers. I was trying to point out, would they be willing to take a job paying a little less with Honda or Toyota and getting rid of the UAW.
But I do disagree with your "design" philosophy.
I've yet to see an American made care go past 50K miles without needing major parts replaced. Alternators, starters, water pumps etc. My Mom had a GM made Oldsmobile that blew a head gasket at 40K miles.
I have seen many Honda's and Toyota's go over 300K without failure. Not needing any major component replacement until they hit 150K miles.
That isn't design issues. That's because the Big Three are entrenched in the UAW, and have to cut costs in quality.
The Foreign auto makers don't have the UAW to worry about, so they can invest in higher quality.
Have you been in a Chevrolet or Ford lately? They have the feel of a mobile home.
A: If American car companies want to be competetive with those cars made in America by foreign owners (Toyota, Honda etc) they must get rid of the union influence in their operations. As you said, the unions have forced the companies to pay high wages and give outlandishly generous benefits (even after the employees retire) that they can no longer remain competitive. I say let them fall....or give them the chance to retool and restructure....without the unions. If the people don't want to work for them under the new conditions, they can go elsewhere. It is all about greed.
Q: A car insurance question??
Right now we pay $110 a month for a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe. Me & my husband are both 23 and have 2 kids. Ive always heard insurance depends on age, kids, tickets, kind of car etc. So I am wondering does $110 seem good for us? Also, when we purchase a 2008 Toyota in the next couple of weeks, what kind of insurance increase can we expect? I know you a get a multi-car discount, but being that its new is the payment going to be outrageous? Thanks for answers!
Also, I've never had a ticket and he hasn't had one for 4 1/2 years.
We would be getting a black Toyota Corolla S.
A: Are you carrying full coverage on the santa fe? if so, i dont think this is a terrible rate considering your age. i dont know where you live, so i couldnt speak to the rates in your state. if you feel its to high, call an independent agency and get them to do some quotes for you. as to the new car, call your agent. they will be able to tell you exactly how much it will be to add it to your policy
