Q: How do I program a remote for a 2002 Hyundai Sonata?
I recently purchased a keyless entry remote for my 2002 Sonata. However, I do not know how to program it. I know dealers do it, but that's up near $75. Can anyone give me any tips? Thanks!
A: Hyundai is not included in the list of cars that can be programmed without a hi-scan tool. No secret instructions. Only dealers have the computer needed for the operation.
I'm afraid you're going to have to go to the dealer. $75.00 seems very high though... we only charge $27.00.
If you have an aftermarket system you'll have to contact the company that built it.
Q: What are the torque specs for a 2002 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 crank pully?
I am trying to find the crank position sensor on my 2002 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 and I also need to know the torque requirements for the crank pulley and harmonic balancer.
A: The crank sensor is behind the timing cover, held in place by 2 10mm bolts. You need to remove the t-belt to access it. The torque for the crank bolt is about 120 ft-lbs.
Q: How to fix a 2002 Hyundai sonata EVAP Emission control system, Check engine light?
I have a 2002 Hyundai sonata and the check engine light came on. I had a computer read out for it and they are telling me a its the EVAP Emission Control System Vent Circuit Malf. Code number P0446. The question is how do you fix it?
A: ill tell you how but i need the best answer from you :P
When did the light come on ? was it after you filled up your gas tank??
If that is the case you might want to go to the Gas Cap and make sure its tight - remove it and then turn it till you are JUST tight enough before it clicks THEN while pushing down on the cap turn it till you get 1 click that will ensure that the cap is on tight.
Reset the light and drive the vehicle for 500 miles - that will reset the Drive Cycle of the vehicle - and if there is still a problem then you will know that the Cap itself is defective or you have a plastic vent line broken seom where.
OH by the way - the Canister does not have a sensor on it - the vent sensor is located on the gas tank - it senses pressure , and what it does is manages the amount of loss in the tank - this happens to not allow fuel vapors in the AIR - hence cleaner vehicle polutants...... Check the gas cap reset light drive 500 miles recheck if light comes back on....done deal *)
Good Luck to you.
Q: What kind of transmission fluid do I use in my 2002 Hyundai sonata?
I am going to change my transmission fluid on my 02 sonata. They did not carry the fluid at autozone. Advanced told me that it took 8 quarts and they had it. I thought 8 qts seemed like a lot. How much and what kind of fluid do I need.
A: I had a 2001 Hyundai Elantra and I had to get special transmission fluid from the Hyundai dealership. If you get any other kind it will wreck your transmission, trust me, it happened! I think I ended up using about 8 quarts. I bought a case form the dealership and left the rest in the trunk in case I ever needed them. I believe there were 12 in the case. I can't remember how much I paid but I think it was under $30. Just call the nearest dealership to be sure.
Q: How do i remove the drivers door panel on a 2002 hyundai sonata?
Please give me detailed instructions, I need to get in there to fix the window, it wont roll up. I cant figure out how the get the door panel off though.
A: There should be a couple of screws on it look for them and one around door handle, then place a flat piece of plastic or wood between door panel and door and pry it off the door you will see the door clips don't lose them and then you should be OK hope this helps,
Q: How much does it cost to replace the front windshield of a 2002 Hyundai Sonata?
I'm not sure if it'll need to be replaced but that's the worse case scenerio...
A: I usually pay......$135 to $ 165......you can buy a new one and place it your self....$85
The glass shops will come to your place....and replace the glass right on the spot....in about 25 minutes. This type of replacement is usually very competitive.
In shops and new car dealers....they usually just call the guys to come change it out and tack some extra bucks.
Check with your insurance, if rocks on a freeway while driving broke it....they pay $225 to $ 290.

Q: Can you pop off the plastic/glass covers over the headlights of a 2002 Hyundai Sonata to clean them?
I can't see well at night and the plastic covers look icky...I got brighter light bulbs but those are installed under the hood...just wondered if the headlight covers pop off from the outside - I am afraid to try it.
A: they do sell headlite cleaning kits. It comes with sandpaper an some buffing rags an a couple of diffrent chemicals. its a three step process and it works very well. I have used it an i was amazed at how good it worked. A local auto part store should carry the kits.. You can check walmart as well. It's around 17 dollars and like i said it works very well an they come out looking like new.
Q: How to you change the front drivers side tire on a 2002 hyundai sonata?
I cant seem to get it off. I took the lugnuts off but it seems to be stuck some how. Does it have to do with the brakes or what?
A: with all the lug nuts off, take a big hammer and a solid peice of pipe, and whack along the center of the rim. It shuld come off
Q: Front suspension problems on the 2002 Hyundai Sonata?
I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata. It rides great on smooth surfaces, but as soon as you have to negotiate rough roads, the ride gets bumpy / uncomfortable and you can hear a clunking sound coming from the front of the car (steering is a little bit stiff).
I had it diagnosed and I was told that the problem resulted from damage frontal shocks and if I wanted the designer ride (i.e. how the car war designed to ride initially), I had to replace both shocks. I did, but the problem just won’t go away. I took it to another mechanic and I was told that the coil springs on the front are worn and must be replaced. By surfing the net I found a guy with a similar problem and he was told that the rubber grommets on the sway bars were small and worn. He had them replaced and the problem gone. Should I just change the bushings/grommets on the sway bars or should I replace the coil springs ?
A: You should buy a new car....hyundai's are unreliable and cheap. These things will only continue to go wrong, if not this then something else. Isn't it still covered by the "great" 100,000 mile/10 year warranty? If it is then this should be covered and you won't have to pay anything. Just take it to hyundai and let them fix it.
Q: how hard is it to change the wheel bearings on a 2002 hyundai sonata?
is this something I could do myself. i've changed starters ,alternators, water pumps etc. etc.but never done any wheel or chassis work!
A: Trade it
Q: I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata that had an alternator replaced. This lead to more problems! Is this a rip off?
The alternator was replaced by removing right front wheel and going in underneath. On the way home I notice a "shimmery" noise I had never heard before on the right side. Took car back, they say boot on left front needs replaced and bearing on right front wneel needs replaced, supposedly due to nothing they did. The boot he knew about, the bearing he didn't...I asked why wasn't I told about the boot ..."well I was told to replace the alternator". He didn't remove where the bearing was to get to the alternator they say. They ordered the bearing twice, it is too small although they say that's what the catalog calls for. They say this means somewhere down the line someone replaced the spindle. The Hyundai place only has one more type of bearing it could be and they don't know if it will fit or not, but it is the only option left. It will be Tues or Wed before the part will come in. If that part doesn't work who knows what will be next. Am I being ripped off or does this sound legit?
I bought the car second hand so the $$ isn't in Korea, its in my home town. Downing the car isn't responsive to the question.
Last two answers are very helpful :) If I can figure out how to rate, I will do it. It won't let me do thumbs up/down yet apparently.
A: The boot issue probably had nothing to do with the original repair work, although a shop that was good would have informed you of the issue the first time the vehicle was in the shop (and attempted to sell you the repair). Not only does that make business sense (it is easier and more cost effective to work on a vehicle once as compared to numerous times) it also fosters a sense of trust between the shop and the customer. As for the hub issue, it is EXTREMELY suspicious that the hub failed after he shop worked on it. I would take it to another shop for a second opinion. If the second shop, in their professional opinion, thinks that the first shop did something to cause the hub issue you do have legal avenues open to you to recoup the cost of the hub repair. I would also start looking for another shop to repair my vehicles, one that I would trust to tell me everything that they find wrong with my vehicle on the first trip in, saving me time and hassle in numerous repeat trips. Another option you do have, especially since the part is numerous days out, is to contact the corporate office or website and file a complaint if the shop was not a mom and pop place. Many corporations will work with you to resolve any issues amicably.
Q: Does anyone have problems pumping gas into their 2002 Hyundai Sonata?
today the pump turned off half dozen times before I got 2 gallons in. There seems to be backwash almost immediately when I start pumping the gas. I can only pump very slowly or it pumps off immediately.
A: Your vent hose is probably blocked, or off completely. Try to feel up there. Was tank recently removed?

I have Emission testing this month and I have to replace it!!! Any adivice ?? HELP!
Any and all responses will be appreciated! :)
A: you can do it yourself it not too hard but you will need a special tool, O2 sensor removal tool you can get one at any parts store they are not too expencive. then just folow the exhaust pipes to the first or second sensor unplug it unscrewit then screw in the new one and plug it in, you may have to become a contortionist to get to it but it is relitivly simple, good luck
Q: I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata and I have a question about the brakes.?
I took the car in to the dealer and they mentioned to me that the brakes were worn out to 3mm in the front and 2mm in the rear. They told me that they start out at 9mm. I don't hear any squealing yet, just feel a bit of a wobble. Is it necessary to change the brakes immediately or can I put it off for a month? I put less than 1000 miles on it each month. Too bad the car isn't paid off yet - it would be easy to go ahead and do the service!
Thanks.
A: 3 mm is pretty worn, however I would definitely get a second opinion. Rear brakes wear a lot slower than front brakes so if you are trying to moderate your spending, get the front ones done now and leave the rear ones for later (I think your rear ones can probably last you several more months.
The reason I recommend the second opinion is that typically the front brakes wear 3-4x faster than the rear brakes. 80% (approx) of your stopping power comes from your front brakes. Typically your rear brakes wear significantly slower. Or when he gave you the 2mm for the rear brake, he failed to mention that the rear brake shoes probably only started out as 4 mm shoes. (I'm assuming you probably have drums in the back)
The reason I recommend getting them done now is before the brake pads in front bite into the rotors, you can more than likely have the rotors machined. The machining is typically included in the cost to have your brakes done. If you go metal to metal, typically the metal back part of the pad will damage the rotors and you'll definitely need to have them replaced. This can easily run $60 per side for rotors. Definitely worth getting the fronts replaced if you can save the rotors and only get them machined (aka turned).
